Aims
To provide a clear framework for the safe collection, storage, and disposal of healthcare sharps, including cytotoxic sharps, to minimize risks of injury and infection.
To provide a safe and accessible means for the disposal of healthcare sharps. This service will facilitate hygienic practices and ensure the safe destruction of used sharps.
To ensure that self-treating NHS patients have easy access to sharps disposal services, encouraging proper disposal practices among patients and caregivers.
To reduce the potential for hazards associated with improper disposal of sharps.
To ensure compliance with regulations
Scope
The pharmacy will be a provider of sharps return for self-treating NHS patients on the Isle of Wight. To include 1litre and 2litre yellow sharps boxes as standard, purple lidded cytotoxic sharps boxes, and the option to include larger boxes (3litre – 7litre) on an individual basis.
