LFD service: Promoting the service to people who are 85 years or over

While there are many eligible groups of people who can access the Lateral Flow Device (LFD) service who are not always easy to identify, people who are collecting prescriptions and are aged 85 years or over, are an easy group to identify (due to their age being included on their prescriptions) as eligible for the service.

Eligible patients are encouraged to have test kits at home in advance of them developing any symptoms which may prompt use of a test.

Pharmacy teams could raise awareness of the service to people in the 85 years and over group (or their carers) by speaking to them ahead of the start of autumn to encourage them to keep a box of LFD test kits at home in case they develop COVID-19 symptoms.

We have produced small flyers that pharmacy owners could attach to prescription bags for patients who are 85 years and over to act as a prompt to highlight the service to patients and check whether they have any LFD test kits at home.
