Help Improve Future NHS Digital Services

Community pharmacy owners and their teams have two opportunities to help shape the development of future NHS digital services, ensuring that pharmacy perspectives are reflected in systems designed to support both clinical care and service delivery.

The opportunities relate to:

  1. An early prototype of a future Manage Your Service (MYS) claiming process for Independent Prescribing (IP) consultations; and
  2. The development of the NHS Single Patient Record (SPR) programme and its proposed Core Record.

By taking part, community pharmacy professionals can provide valuable frontline insight to help ensure these national programmes meet the needs of pharmacy teams and support effective patient care.

  1. Help Test a Future MYS Claiming Process for Independent Prescribing

The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA), working with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), is developing an early prototype of a new MYS process that might support future claiming for Independent Prescribing consultations in the future.

NHSBSA is looking for community pharmacy volunteers who:

  • Are currently delivering Independent Prescribing services; or
  • May consider delivering these services in the future.

Participants will take part in a short, moderated usability testing session via Microsoft Teams. During the session, they will work through a small number of realistic scenarios while providing feedback to a user researcher on what works well and where improvements could be made.

Testing sessions will take place between 22nd July and 5th August 2026, with appointment times arranged flexibly around participants’ availability.

Feedback from community pharmacy teams will help ensure the system is:

  • Practical and easy to use;
  • Efficient within busy pharmacy environments; and
  • Aligned with real-world community pharmacy workflows.
  1. Single Patient Record research

Community pharmacy owners and teams are also being encouraged to contribute to the early discovery phase of the NHS Single Patient Record (SPR) programme.

The SPR programme is developing a Core Record – a concise, standardised view of key patient information intended to support safe clinical decision-making, particularly when healthcare professionals are seeing a patient for the first time.

Research discussions will explore:

  • The information pharmacy teams need to support patients effectively;
  • Current challenges when accessing patient information; and
  • What matters most for safe clinical decision-making;

Participants will be invited to take part in an informal one-hour interview with members of the SPR design team.

Input from pharmacy owners and teams will be vital in helping to design a solution that supports frontline practice and delivers benefits for patients and healthcare professionals alike.

Register your interest in either project

If you would like to participate, please complete the 1-minute signup IT form with:

  • Confirmation of your interest in participating;
  • Your pharmacy’s ODS code; and
  • Either ‘SPR’ or ‘IP submission’.

Expressions of interest for IP testing should ideally be submitted by noon on Wednesday 22 July 2026.

Expressions of interest for SPR participation will be accepted for a short period (timings to be confirmed).
