Key information: Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme
NHS England has asked us to share the following reminders with pharmacy owners.
Pharmacy owners will soon be welcoming the 2026 Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Programme (FTPP) cohort. At the same time, current trainee pharmacists and designated supervisors are preparing for the final sign-off requirements needed to complete the training year.
Preparing for the 2026 FTPP
To begin the programme, every trainee must have a confirmed Designated Supervisor.
- For the summer intake, supervisors must be registered by midday on Monday 15th June 2026.
- Trainees without a confirmed supervisor by this deadline will be deferred to the autumn intake.
Trainees can only start the programme once all requirements have been met, including:
- Completion of an MPharm or OSPAP qualification;
- Submission of a General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration application;
- Confirmation of a Designated Supervisor; and
- A signed employment contract, including an agreed training plan.

Final sign off process for current Foundation trainee pharmacists
As Foundation trainee pharmacists approach the end of their training year, NHS England has set out the final sign off requirements via the e-portfolio.
Key points:
- Completion of all e-portfolio elements — including the FTPP Final Sign Off form— is mandatory, and allows NHS England to report successful training completion to the GPhC;
- Delays in completion may impact registration timelines;
- A Quick Guide for Final Sign Off is available; and
- No extensions will be granted where requirements are incomplete.
