Funding & Reimbursement Shorts: Prescription charges – what does the patient pay?

As part of our Funding & Reimbursement Shorts series, Community Pharmacy England’s in-house Drug Tariff experts have created a new video discussing prescription charges. In this video, we provide guidance on how pharmacy teams can determine the number of charges that apply to items dispensed against NHS prescriptions.

In this video, Gemma Hackett (Dispensing and Supply Officer) and Alisha Khatri (Dispensing and Supply Pharmacist) discuss:

  • When a single prescription charge is payable;
  • Items that attract multiple prescription charges;
  • Combination packs that attract multiple charges;
  • The charging rules for elastic compression hosiery;
  • The charging rules for lymphoedema garments; and
  • How to check the number of prescription charges payable.
