Upcoming changes to Part IX of the Drug Tariff on-demand webinar
Community Pharmacy England and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) held a joint webinar on Tuesday 22nd September 2026 to explain the upcoming changes to Part IX of the Drug Tariff.
Part IX of the Drug Tariff lists all the medical devices (appliances) allowed to be prescribed on NHS prescriptions in England. Following a targeted consultation, DHSC is updating the existing appliance categories and reviewing the existing product listings in an effort to modernise Part IX. According to DHSC’s impact assessment, the proposals may impact pricing and availability of certain appliances. For example, the changes are expected to result in deletion of products from Part IX and/or a possible reduction in prices of appliances listed in Part IX – pharmacies will need to review their existing stock holding of affected appliances. There is also a risk of unintended negative consequences on product supply resilience and consumer choice if the changes lead to a reduced number of medical device suppliers in the market.
Representatives from the Medical Technologies and Innovation Team at DHSC alongside experts from Community Pharmacy England’s Dispensing and Supply Team explained more about the upcoming changes and what they will mean for pharmacy teams, including:
