Office software (IT)

Office software helps pharmacy teams create documents, share information and work more efficiently. Most office software packages include tools for writing documents, managing spreadsheets, creating presentations and collaborating with colleagues.
Many NHS organisations use Microsoft 365 tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. Community pharmacies may choose from a range of software options, including both paid-for and free products, depending on their business needs and local IT arrangements.
Good office software can support:
- Document creation and record-keeping;
- Spreadsheet management and reporting;
- Presentations and training materials;
- Team collaboration and communication; and
- Secure sharing of information.
Individual applications can be used on their own or as part of a wider office software package.
Several office software packages are available, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, LibreOffice and other products.
When selecting software, pharmacy owners may wish to consider:
- Compatibility with NHS systems and local workflows;
- Security and data protection requirements;
- Collaboration features;
- Ongoing costs and support arrangements; and
- Training requirements for pharmacy teams.
Independent technology websites such as TechRadar may provide comparisons of office software options. Always review information carefully and check that it remains up to date before making purchasing decisions.
Many NHS organisations use Microsoft 365 tools, including Microsoft Teams, to support communication and collaboration.
If your pharmacy team uses a nhs.net account, the Microsoft applications available to you will depend on your local NHS organisation’s arrangements, licences and system configuration. Access to services may vary between organisations.
