Celebrating Black History Month 2023

Pharmacy press

This month marks Black History Month, a time to celebrate the contributions of people with African and Caribbean backgrounds to British society and learn more about Black history and culture as a whole. We at Community Pharmacy England, along with many of our colleagues across the sector and beyond, are observing this throughout October.

We shared the below statement with the pharmacy press.

Adeola Wilson, Media and Corporate Communications Manager at Community Pharmacy England, said:

“As we celebrate Black History Month, we want to recognise the invaluable contributions of Black colleagues across community pharmacy and beyond. We want to particularly celebrate the contributions of our Black colleagues across the sector who work tirelessly to make it as special as it is.

“As a Black woman myself, I am deeply inspired by the rich diversity of our sector. Black history is an integral part of the UK’s healthcare system, and this extends to community pharmacy. Since becoming Community Pharmacy England, we are even more committed to improving how we represent our sector, and part of this begins with recognising events and achievements that are representative of those within community pharmacy. We value the diversity of our sector and will continue to emphasise and reflect this within all our communications and materials every opportunity we can.

“I also want to celebrate fellow Black women within our sector. Your input, ideas, and contributions are invaluable. I understand the significance of your roles, I understand that your representation matters in various fields and at all levels in community pharmacy. This begins with appreciating our diversity in every workplace. I take pride in every Black woman in this sector and celebrate each of you.”
