Clinical examination skills training for community pharmacists

Pharmacy owners are reminded that the fully funded NHS England Community Pharmacy Clinical Examination Skills training programme is available to all community pharmacists in England. The programme is being delivered by CliniSkillsTM.

The training comprises of e-learning and in-person training opportunities, with the aim of supplementing existing knowledge and skills to deal with a variety of presenting symptoms and to support provision or expansion of pharmacy services.

The e-learning modules include structured history taking, followed by a series of clinical modules on: Cardiology, Ear, Nose and Throat, Paediatrics, Wound Care and Skin Conditions. Content focuses on identifying red flags for referral, knowing when the person can be managed with over-the-counter medicines as part of support with self-care advice and provision of safety netting information.

The face to face element of the programme, including use of all diagnostic equipment provided, allows pharmacists to practice using these of these diagnostic equipment in a safe environment with the support of associate clinical educators.
