Community Pharmacy England publishes 2024/25 Annual Report

The 2024/25 annual report for Community Pharmacy England has been published, outlining what was another crucial year for the organisation and highlighting the breadth of work carried out on behalf of all community pharmacy owners.

The year saw the first CPCF negotiations with the new Government, resulting in a positive step-change for the sector and the largest investment in community pharmacy in the past decade. However, pharmacies continue to face incredibly difficult times, and much more remains to be done to secure the long-term sustainability of the sector. We will continue fighting for you to make this happen.

The report highlights key moments and workstreams, including the work done to build strong relationships with the new Government, and to make the case for the sector, supported by compelling data, powerful stories from pharmacy owners, and a clear vision for the sector’s future. This approach contributed to the CPCF negotiations outcome, which secured a funding increase of more than £800 million for the sector.

A significant amount of support was offered to pharmacy owners and LPCs throughout the year, from monitoring funding and margin to holding webinars and events, and producing guidance and resources on a range of regulatory and service changes.

Community Pharmacy England’s political influencing work also achieved a lot in the past year, such as the inclusion of pharmacy in party manifestos during the General Election, contributing to major reviews such as Lord Darzi’s NHS Review, the Government’s Spending Review, the Independent Economic Review, and proposals for the NHS 10-Year Plan, as well as quickly responding to the Autumn Budget, delivering extensive media work and much more. We also commissioned in-depth economic analysis to demonstrate the true scale of underfunding and the value of investing in community pharmacy.

The annual report covers: the year in review, impact, strategy, support, and annual accounts; all to give a full picture of the work delivered in 2024/25. We also reflect on the outlook, discussing preparations for upcoming negotiations and other programmes of engagement with the sector.

Janet Morrison, Chief Executive of Community Pharmacy England, said:

“Over the coming year, as every year, we will continue at Community Pharmacy England to fight hard for the sector, using every route that we can to secure a sustainable future, while remaining in awe of the dedication community pharmacy owners and teams show to their patients and communities in delivering a fantastic and valued service.

My team and I work exceptionally closely with our Committee, who are representatives of the whole community pharmacy sector and are as varied as the size, scope, and business models you find across it. None of the things we achieve each year would be possible without their hard work and commitment. They are incredibly passionate and articulate – not only about the opportunities for community pharmacy, but about the realities of the severe challenges you face in this climate.

I would also like to especially thank Sue Killen, our outgoing Chair, who has seen the organisation through significant change and development. Her guidance, commitment and leadership over the past six years has been incredibly valuable to us. And I am pleased to welcome Professor Dame Jenny Harries to Community Pharmacy England as she takes on the Chair role. Bringing extensive knowledge and experience, I am looking forward to working closely with her.”
