Medicine Supply Notification: Isosorbide mononitrate 40mg modified release tablets and capsules

Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a medicine supply notification for:

  • Isosorbide mononitrate (Isotard® 40XL) 40mg modified-release (MR) tablets
  • Isosorbide mononitrate (Zemon® 40 XL) 40mg modified-release (MR) tablets
  • Isosorbide mononitrate (Nyzamac® SR) 40mg modified-release (MR) capsules

Tier 2 – medium impact

Date of issue: 3rd January 2024

  • Zemon® 40 XL tablets are out of stock until early January 2024.
  • Nyzamac® SR 40mg capsules are out of stock until late January 2024.
  • Isotard® 40XL tablets are out of stock until early February 2024.
  • From early January, Zemon® 40 XL can support a partial increase in demand.
  • ISMO Retard® 40mg tablets remain available, however they cannot support an increase in demand.
  • Isosorbide mononitrate MR 50mg and 60mg preparations remain available and can support increased demand, including;
      • Isotard 50XL and 60XL tablets
      • Tardisc XL 60 tablets
      • Chemydur 60XL tablets
  • Isosorbide mononitrate immediate release tablets remain available, however, patients should not be changed to these without clinical review.

A copy of this medicine supply notification, including further information, has been sent to all pharmacy NHS email addresses.

DHSC and NHSE/I have now launched an online Medicines Supply Tool, which provides up to date information about medicine supply issues. The contents of these MSNs can now be viewed on the Tool.

The Tool also details any changes to resupply dates and updates to the entries.

To access the Tool you will need  an NHS email address. Once set up and logged in, you will be able to access it online.
