Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide) KwikPen® – availability and reimbursement
Eli Lilly and Company Ltd has recently launched Mounjaro® (tirzepatide), a new diabetes drug which is also indicated for the treatment of weight loss. Mounjaro® comes in a KwikPen® or auto-injector pre-filled injection pen containing 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg of tirzepatide.
Currently, only the 2.5mg and 5mg strengths of the KwikPen® are available to order via AAH and Phoenix. The higher doses of Mounjaro® KwikPen® will be made available over the coming months. The KwikPen® is a multi-dose pen containing 4 doses of the specified amount.
The single dose auto-injector pen is currently unavailable in the UK. The KwikPen® cannot be dispensed against a prescription for the auto-injector pen. Prescriptions for the auto-injector will need to be returned to the prescriber and re-issued for the KwikPen®. Please note that until prescribing systems have updated to allow selection of the KwikPen®, prescribers will need to issue handwritten paper FP10 prescriptions for the KwikPen®. If any prescriptions are received for the auto-injector, these should be returned to the prescriber so they can be re-issued for the KwikPen®.

However, the single-dose auto-injector pens are currently unavailable in the UK market. Currently, only Mounjaro® KwikPen® is available in 2.5mg and 5mg strengths. If any prescriptions for the auto-injector pens are received, these should be returned to the prescriber so they can be re-issued for the KwikPen®. A. The Mounjaro® KwikPen® comes as a single 2.4ml pre-filled injection containing 4 doses of tirzepatide (each dose in 0.6ml of injection) whereas the auto-injector comes in a pack of four single dose pens each containing 0.5ml of tirzepatide. The single dose auto-injectors pens are currently unavailable. If your prescription displays the 0.5ml size pens (autoinjector), this will need to be re-written for the 2.4ml size multi-dose KwikPen®. A.
