Optimising health improvement through community pharmacies
Guidance aimed at commissioners on optimising health improvement through community pharmacies has been published by Public Health England (PHE).*
The guidance was developed by PHE and supported by the Healthy Living Pharmacy (HLP) Task Group of the Pharmacy and Public Health Forum.
The purpose of the guidance is to provide commissioners with a framework that sets out the core components for seven public health areas that could be commissioned through community pharmacies:
- Stop smoking support;
- Diet, nutrition, and healthy weight;
- Alcohol consumption;
- Sexual health, reproductive health and HIV;
- Substance misuse;
- Cardiovascular disease prevention; and
- Public mental health.
The guidance sets out the core components, training requirements, key performance indicators, national guidance and evidence (where available), for the commissioning of services across the seven public health areas.
