Pharmacies warn of service cuts without urgent funding action
Thousands of pharmacies in England warn that they are being faced with ‘agonising decisions about what services to cut to their patients to keep their doors open’ when new costs hit in April.
In a letter to the Health Secretary Wes Streeting, the National Pharmacy Association says some pharmacies in England are at risk of imminent closure.

Our CEO Janet Morrison said:
“We have been warning the Government and NHS that community pharmacies are battling to survive in the current climate. The pressures are extreme: the impact of the £2 billion annual funding gap, along with other inflationary pressures, is leaving the vast majority of pharmacy businesses in real economic peril. Without intervention, we will see only more deterioration of the pharmacy sector with significant impacts on the patients and communities that rely upon them. The NHS must at a minimum ensure the safety of medicine supply and frontline services, and that means having a healthy and sustainable community pharmacy network. Government must urgently develop a roadmap for community pharmacy’s future and make immediate progress towards a sustainable funding model.”
