Primary care professions organise joint Parliamentary briefing event
Community Pharmacy England is once again leading the organisation of a joint Parliamentary drop-in event with fellow primary care bodies, continuing a long-running collaborative partnership.
Following on from last year’s successful joint event, the 2026 iteration, ‘Future of Primary Care’, will be held in January and is being co-hosted with the British Dental Association, British Medical Association, Optometric Fees Negotiating Committee and the Association for Primary Care Audiology Providers. This year, our sponsoring MP is Helen Morgan, the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Health and Social Care and Member of Parliament for North Shropshire.
The event aims to brief Parliamentarians about primary care services and the professionals who provide them and ask for their help to ensure a long-term sustainable future for the sector. We hope the event will be even more successful than the one we held earlier this year, when 40 MPs and staff attended.
Hosting joint events is just one part of an ongoing programme of coordinated activity between the primary care representative bodies. The organisations meet regularly to share intelligence, discuss issues we have in common and consider areas where we can collaborate.
Within the past year, the primary care bodies have combined forces to make a joint submission to the 10 Year Health Plan consultation, issue a joint statement on the Government Spending Review, and call for dispensations to the employer’s National Insurance contribution increase.
This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to working together to highlight policy priorities and maximise the effectiveness of primary care. Pooling our resources in this way gives us the best chance to achieve our common goals.
We will continue to work to make primary care’s voice heard, especially during the delivery stage of the 10 Year Health Plan for England.
