Description
The service will provide patient assessment and advice, and provision of a medicine or appliance from the Pharmacy (P) medicine or General Sale List (GSL) for patients with the conditions specified on the agreed list of conditions.
The initial face to face assessment will be performed by a suitably trained, competent and accredited member of the community pharmacy team; medicines counter assistant, dispensing assistant or pharmacy technician with referral to a pharmacist if necessary.
Where the consultation involves general advice and the issue of a GSL medicine(s) it will be completed by a member of the community pharmacy team and where it involves the issue of a P medicines it will be through final reference to the pharmacist.

Pharmacists and pharmacy staff must provide a Declaration of Competence (see CPPE website) to provide the community pharmacy Minor Ailments Service. The community pharmacy team are expected to reflect on their knowledge, skills and competences before making the declarations, and to address any learning and development before starting to deliver the service.
