Description
The service allows a supply of emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) as levonorgestrel to be made under a Patient Group Direction (PGD) where clinically appropriate by a community pharmacist.
Supply can be made to a client under 20 (in exceptional circumstances women over 20 if they are unable to access another service) presenting within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse.
The service will be offered at no cost to the client.
A condom pack should also be offered to each client.

Training
The pharmacist:
- should attend initial training run by the Kent Teenage Pregnancy Partnership (KTPP) to work to the PGD and to follow the Kent Safeguarding Sexually Active Tool and attend refresher training at least every two years;
- has completed the CPPE (Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education) EHC course; and
- should ensure that they are familiar with Kent Child Protection Committee procedures for referring children and young people who are thought to be at risk.
