Aims and objectives of service
The overall aim of the service is to provide treatment and advice via a minor ailments service
to patients within the boundary of NENC ICS. The service will:
• Promote self-care.
• Support local developments to promote appropriate use of antibiotics.
• Address health inequalities.
• Provide additional access in the event of a pandemic, to encourage self-care to
patients who are able to manage their own symptoms at home.
• Contribute towards the reduction in demand on inappropriate attendances at GP
surgeries and Accident and Emergency (A&E).
• Bring care closer to home for patients.
• Contribute towards the cost-effective use of medicines.
• Increase patient choice to access primary care in alternative settings.
• Facilitate access and support behaviour change programmes as part of the Change
for Life initiative addressing prevention and early intervention.
• Make every contact a health improvement contact.
