Assurance: IT suppliers whether listed here or not, are encouraged to complete the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPTK) supplier version and ISO270001. You can check DSPTK completion records to support your assurance. Prescribing within community pharmacy (CPCF)
Prescribing within CPCF (independent prescribing) is becoming an option for pharmacy owners who wish to become early adopters.
Previously, NHS England commissioned use of the CLEO SOLO EPS system within community pharmacy Pathfinder sites. This helped NHS England test and evaluate prescribing workflows within community pharmacy settings and informed the development of future strategy, requirements and standards for community pharmacy prescribing.
NHS England is working with suppliers to increase the range of prescribing systems available to community pharmacy. Additional systems are expected to become available following NHS Digital Services for Integrated Care (DSIC) related assurance for community pharmacy use. Before any systems can be approved, NHS requirements and technical specifications must be developed and refined. Suppliers must then design, develop, test and assure their systems for use within community pharmacy.
It will be down to pharmacy owners, having considered the relevant information, to decide on an individual basis whether it makes commercial sense for their business or whether they will instead prioritise the use of IP skills elsewhere in their business. Pharmacy owners choosing to prescribe within the CPCF should discuss shorter-term contracts, recognising that further digital developments and additional prescribing system options and capability are expected later.

Prescribing within GP practices, urgent and other approved care settings
Within GP practices, these systems are in use:
- EMIS Web
- Medicus
- SystmOne (TPP)
- Vision (InPS)
Some GP practices are adopting new functionality through national programmes such as GP IT Futures.
