Community Pharmacy England will be hosting a webinar on the introduction of Original Pack Dispensing (OPD) on Monday 25th November at 7.30pm.
In September amendments were made to the pharmacy regulations to introduce OPD +/- 10% dispensing for NHS prescriptions. From 1st January 2025, these amendments state that the supervising pharmacist must consider dispensing up to 10% more or less than the prescribed quantity, as appropriate, and allows pharmacists the flexibility to make that +/-10% supply if that would mean the medicine could be dispensed in the manufacturer’s original pack.

The OPD webinar has been scheduled well ahead of changes coming into effect to help guide pharmacy owners and their teams as they put plans in process to implement this new dispensing protocol. A new briefing will also be issued shortly to provide a full reference guide.
The upcoming webinar will aim to:
- Explain what OPD +/- 10% is and why it’s being introduced;
- Describe when and how to use OPD +/- 10%, including which types of products it will relate to;
- Outline how reimbursement rules will be applied after OPD is introduced, including worked examples;
- Provide an update on the surrounding IT/PMR functionality plus timelines (note, information received from your IT/PMR supplier remains essential reading too); and
- Answer your questions.
