Share your views: Encouraging people with COPD to attend pulmonary rehabilitation
Community pharmacists, with experience in making referrals to pulmonary rehabilitation, are invited to participate in an online interview and focus groups to explore how best to discuss pulmonary rehabilitation with people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The study seeks to identify a way that encourages individuals to agree to be referred for this treatment.
Only 13% of people living with COPD in England are referred for pulmonary rehabilitation and pharmacists are playing an increasing role in this referral process.
A team from the Brunel University London are conducting the study to:
- Explore people’s experience of referring people with COPD to pulmonary rehabilitation; and
- Co-design a referral conversation framework and training programme for referrers to use when discussing pulmonary rehabilitation with their patients.
Interviews and focus groups will be carried out with stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and people living with COPD, to ensure all perspectives are explored.
