As today marks World Pharmacists Day, an annual awareness day led by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) – we, at Community Pharmacy England, are celebrating the crucial role pharmacists play in improving access to healthcare, ensuring the responsible use of medicines and so much more. This year’s theme, ‘Pharmacy strengthening health systems’, highlights the invaluable contribution of this sector and all the professions within it in delivering effective, safe and quality healthcare to communities worldwide.

We shared the below statement with the pharmacy press.

Our Chief Executive Janet Morrison said:

“This World Pharmacists Day we want to thank all our community pharmacy colleagues in England for the work they do for patients and communities every single day – it makes a world of difference to them.

This past year community pharmacists and their teams have faced immense challenges, but their dedication has been unwavering. These efforts deserve to be rewarded and supported, which is why we are constantly working towards a better future for our sector. As well as working through the detail of a £645m investment from the UK Government, we are also using the Vision for Community Pharmacy from Nuffield Trust and The King’s Fund to facilitate vital policy discussions ahead of negotiations on the next Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF).

I hope that in the years to come we will see community pharmacists fully valued, supported and funded, and that the full potential of the community pharmacy sector in England will be utilised.”

Our CEO gives a video update addressing the prolonged pause in the 2024/25 CPCF negotiations.
