Description

The purpose is to provide a service to drug treatment service users and providers which will help to ensure that prescribed medication is consumed under professional supervision and that appropriate information is recorded.

Methadone, buprenorphine and Suboxone are included in the agreement.  The range of products will need to be reviewed on a regular basis as new products become available, recommended and prescribed within County Durham.

Training

Participating pharmacy contractors must ensure that a designated pharmacist has completed the CPPE Distance Learning Package ‘Substance Use and Misuse’, (Pharmacist version) equivalent to 10 study hours.  The certificate must be received by Public Health if pharmacy contractors wish to be eligible for participating in the service detailed in this SLA.

Annual refresher sessions will be organised by Public Health and Lifeline for the designated pharmacists to attend in order to ensure best practice is maintained.
