Community Pharmacy England sets out position to Ministerial Team

Community Pharmacy England Chief Executive Janet Morrison has met with Minister of State for Care Stephen Kinnock, along with two community pharmacy owners/representatives both of whom sit on the Community Pharmacy England Negotiating Team.

Minister Kinnock’s brief covers all primary care contracts, including community pharmacy, and he reiterated how central community pharmacies will be to the new Government’s health and wider missions. He has been briefed on community pharmacy, including the pressures on the sector, throughout the summer.

Community Pharmacy England underlined to the Minister the critical pressures and the urgent need for a funding uplift, as well as discussing Pharmacy First and outlining the wider potential for pharmacies to do more to support the health of their local communities.

We expect negotiations on the Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) for 2024/25 to resume soon and will share further information about this as soon as possible.

Janet Morrison, Community Pharmacy England Chief Executive, said:

“Community pharmacy has much potential to help the new Government to meet its ambitions for healthcare including expanding preventative services and reducing health inequalities, but pharmacies can only do this if they can afford to stay open and to develop their services. We look forward to maintaining regular dialogue with Minister Kinnock as we work to try to improve both the short and long-term outlook for community pharmacies.”
