Labour leader Keir Starmer gave a speech setting out their priorities for healthcare, which was followed by the publication of a policy document to Build an NHS fit for the future.

Chief Executive Janet Morrison said:

“We have been clear that although the funding announced in the Primary Care Recovery Plan is welcome, it is not a silver bullet to the ongoing and varied pressures facing community pharmacies. Over to the last few months, we have been engaging parliamentarians from all political parties to impress upon them the need for urgent action to ensure community pharmacies have the funding they require to remain open to help their patients.

We are encouraged that there now appears to be a consensus across all parties of the greater role that community pharmacies can play in primary care. With the right core funding in place, pharmacists and their teams are ready and willing to do even more to help their patients and at the same time relieve pressures on other areas of primary care.”
