Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a medicine supply notification for Haloperidol 5mg/5ml poral solution sugar free (Thame Laboratories)
Haloperidol 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free (Thame Laboratories) will be out of stock until March 2021
Limited supplies remain available from Pinewood Healthcare however they are unable to support any uplift in demand.
Haloperidol (Haldol) 2mg/ml oral solution is the only licensed oral solution that can support an uplift in demand.
Haloperidol 500microgram, 1.5mg, 5mg and 10mg tablets remain available
Specials manufacturers have confirmed they can manufacture haloperidol 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free, the following manufacturers have confirmed they can supply unlicensed haloperidol 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free (please note, there may be other companies that can also manufacture this presentation)
When prescribing a product that is not licensed in the UK prescribers must indicate on the FP10 prescription that an unlicensed product is required. This can be done by annotating the prescription with the following wording: “special order”.
There is currently no listing on dm+d for the imported product for prescribers to select using their prescribing systems. Where a prescriber wishes to prescribe an unlicensed import, a paper prescription should be issued as ‘Haloperidol 5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free (Special Order)‘ and endorsed by the pharmacy as a non-Part VIIIB special with the following:
- Amount dispensed over pack size used;
- Invoice price per pack size from which the order was supplied less any discount or rebate;
- Manufacturers’/importers’ MHRA licence number;
- Batch number of the product supplied;
- SP
The DHSC Medicine Supply Team provide a monthly update on potential supply issues affecting both primary and secondary care. This update is uploaded on the Specialist Pharmacy Services (SPS) website. To register, you will need an NHS email address. Once set up and logged in, you will be able to access it online.
