The Circularity in Primary Pharmaceutical Packaging Accelerator (CiPPPA) initiative launch

A new collaborative approach has been launched to address challenges surrounding the recycling of medicine packaging.

The Circularity in Primary Pharmaceutical Packaging Accelerator (CiPPPA) initiative has been launched to connect stakeholders across the pharmaceutical supply chain to work together to develop and implement strategies for recycling primary pharmaceutical packaging. Community Pharmacy England and, for example, NHS England and MHRA are technical advisory members of CIPPPA.

In line with the growing global emphasis on environmental sustainability within the healthcare sector, members of the new CiPPPA initiative are working together with an aim to achieve waste reduction and environmental stewardship, such as the development of effective end-of-life product management of pharmaceutical packaging and diverting waste from landfill sites.

CiPPPA’s efforts will be primarily focused on three action task forces focused on packaging solutions surrounding blisters, inhalers, and injectables and will make use of the expertise of members of the steering group.

To support the launch of CiPPPA, there will be a webinar on driving sustainable packaging solutions in the pharmaceutical industry. You can follow this link to find out more information about the event being held on Thursday 16th May 2024, time to be confirmed.
