Description
The pharmacist or registered technician shall supervise the daily self-administration of methadone, buprenorphine or buprenorphine/naloxone at the point of dispensing in the pharmacy, ensuring that the dose has been administered appropriately to the service user.
The pharmacy should also promote safer practices by providing and reinforcing harm reduction messages including safe sex and advice on overdose prevention, for example, risks of poly-drug use and alcohol use. Pharmacies should also signpost to other services such as hepatitis B immunisation, hepatitis and HIV screening and primary care services.
