Description

The pharmacy will:

  • Provide under Patient Group Direction (PGD) on request emergency contraception within 120 hours of unprotected sex to any female aged 13-24 years old who is resident in Barnet and considered to be Fraser competent who satisfies the inclusion criteria of the PGD.
  • Provide up to a maximum of 100 issues of emergency contraception per year (i.e. over 12-months).
  • Discuss ongoing contraception, in particular LARC and signpost to LARC services, preferably to a Barnet GP LARC provider (using the CNWL published list of GP providers) or to the CNWL Barnet Integrated Sexual Health Services or other appropriate services.
  • Supply EHC.
  • Follow the guidelines in the PGD for Levonorgestral POM and Ulipristal POM or as directed by the product licence for the P medicine. The PGDs for Levonorgestral and Ulipristal are attached at Appendix B
  • Ensure the pharmacy have a reasonable stock level of Levonelle® 1500 (POM product and P product) and EllaOne® (POM and P product)
  • Inform pharmacy staff (as defined in the contract which includes agency staff) of the services and their responsibilities to attend training organised by Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL). The training will take place as far as possible at times when Pharmacies are closed. Pharmacies will be able to claim for staff backfill costs if the training takes place before the scheduled closing time of the Pharmacy.
  • Use the CNWL approved web-based EHC management tool for recording patient consultations, reporting activity, audit and submitting claims and invoices for payment.
  • Link patients into local sexual health and community contraceptive services as appropriate.
  • Assess a service user believed to be under-16 years of age under Fraser Guidelines and record.
  • Provide support and advice to clients including signposting to primary care or sexual health/specialist centres, where appropriate.
  • Ensure that staff delivering the service have complete the agreed training and accreditation programme for pharmacy staff. The Programme will include:
    • Confidentiality
    • Safeguarding
    • Fraser Guidelines
    • PGDs
    • Referral and signposting to other services.
  • Ensure there is a separate private consultation room within the pharmacy for consultations with patients.
