The service allows for pharmacists to supply levonorgestrel or ulipristal under a Patient Group Direction (PGD) for patients who require emergency hormonal contraception (EHC). A pregnancy test can also be supplied if clinically indicated.

The pharmacist should complete the self-declaration of competency – pharmacists should read through and complete the Declaration  of Competency for Emergency Contraception Service available through CPPE.
NICE Competency framework: This competency framework has been developed as a tool to support individual health professionals and organisations that are commissioning or providing NHS services. It may also be relevant to individual health professionals and organisations delivering non-NHS healthcare services. - While not compulsory, this should be considered as one of the training requirements.
