Description
Pharmacists will supply levonorgestrel emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) when appropriate to clients in line with the requirements of the locally agreed Patient Group Direction. The PGD will facilitate supply to young persons under 16 in appropriate circumstances.
Verbal and written advice on the avoidance of sexually transmitted infections and the use of regular contraceptive methods, including advice on the use of condoms, will be provided to the client. This includes provision of a condom pack to all clients under 25 and provision of free chlamydia testing kit to all young people aged 15-24.

The following Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) open learning programmes provide pharmacists with the necessary knowledge to underpin the provision of EHC and must be completed:-
- Emergency Hormonal Contraception
- Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults
- Contraception
Pharmacists must also complete the Commissioner's e-learning package.
