Description

Community pharmacy is involved in plans to eradicate Hepatitis C in Greater Manchester by identifying and treating currently undiagnosed cases, along with initiatives aimed at preventing infection.

The service aims to identify appropriate patients who use Needle Exchange and Supervised Consumption services and offer them a dry blood spot test to screen for Hep-C using a point-of-care testing kit. Patients will then be given their results (positive or negative) in a consultation in the pharmacy and either offered information and lifestyle advice or access to a treatment pathway and counselling through community pharmacy.
