Description

Community pharmacists will:

  • provide medication in monthly instalments;
  • support patients to adhere to treatment regime and complete treatment;
  • maintain records of treatment and adherence to therapy electronically via the Webstar Health online platform;
  • contribute to reducing the of the emergence of treatment-resistant strains of tuberculosis;
  • provide service users with quality information and support;
  • communicate treatment uptake, outcomes and any issue such as Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs)/side-effects to GPs

Training

The lead pharmacist must:

  • complete face-to-face training provided by Newham Clinical Commissioning Group; and
  • complete e-learning course “Tuberculosis in General Practice” (Royal College of General Practitioners): https://cas.rcgp.org.uk/cas/login?service=http%3A%2F%2Felearning.rcgp.org.uk%2Flogin%2Findex.php

The lead pharmacist should:

  • cascade training to all staff (including locums) and have a minimum of 2 staff trained up as health champions;
  • have a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the service; and
  • maintain clinical knowledge appropriate to their practise by maintaining appropriate CPD in full.
