Services Database Minor Ailment Scheme

Service ID

19511

Description

The scheme utilises community pharmacy expertise and capacity to improve access for patients suffering from minor ailments. It creates a direct access pathway for patients entitled to free prescriptions by removing the prerequisite for the patient to visit a GP. The pharmacists provide medication or advice free of charge, via prescription; a provision that already exists for paying consumers. Patients with minor ailments obtain a “Minor Ailment Scheme Passport” that enables them to be seen at local participating pharmacies, freeing up the GP’s time for patients requiring complex interventions.
