Description

The service aims to offer a uniformly high quality service in all pharmacies across the county providing advice and treatment for specific minor ailments. The service is available through accredited community pharmacies at least five days a week, including the weekend if open. The service improves access and choice to people with minor ailments and a referral system from local medical practices or other primary care providers is in operation. Five conditions - bacterial conjunctivitis, impetigo, nappy rash, uncomplicated urinary tract infections and oral candidiasis can be treated with a supply of specified prescription only medicines made in line with the appropriate patient group direction (PGD).

As a pharmacy accredited service, the pharmacy contractor has a duty to ensure that pharmacists involved in the provision of the service have received the relevant authorisation to provide the service from NHS Kernow CCG or the local NHS England team for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
