Description

A 'pick and mix' needle exchange service operates across Bolton.

“Pick and mix” means that every needle exchange transaction is and can be tailored to the individual need of injectors. Patients enter into a dialogue with pharmacy staff about what they want and have available to them a range of needle exchange equipment from which their individual need can be met.

Patients will be people who are using and/or misusing legal, illegal and/or prescribed substances, who are 18 years of age or over, and who are ordinarily resident in Bolton.

Training

Extensive training will be provided for the pharmacy to deliver the services to enable the pharmacy member of staff to provide the relevant advice and support to all customers accessing the service. The training is mandatory and will be provided by staff working within the authority’s contracted services and commissioners when appropriate.
