Description
The service involves the supply of injecting equipment and paraphernalia to injecting drug users self-referring to the service. The service also allows for the acceptance of used injecting equipment.
Supply should not exceed 60 needles per service user unless authorised by Pennine Care Drug and Alcohol Service.

Training
The lead pharmacist should complete CPPE “Substance Use and Misuse”.
Continued competence should be demonstrated by completing the CPPE Declaration of Competence.
The lead pharmacist should also attend an annual update meeting organised by the commissioner.
A member of the pharmacy team should attend the half day workshop “Operating a Needle Exchange System” although this is not mandatory.
