Services Database NRT Voucher Scheme (Darlington Area)
Service ID
90463
Description
A pharmacy based dispensing voucher scheme for Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products will provide increased access to stop smoking support across Darlington.
Its aim is to provide the population with access to NRT products on a weekly basis providing additional support and advice for patients.
The NRT voucher scheme allows the patient the choice at dispensing of the correct NRT product for their health needs. Pharmacies will act as a dispensing point for NRT products with the patients presenting with an NRT voucher at the pharmacy.
Members of staff should on week one ensure that the NRT products are suitable for the patient, based on their smoking status and lifestyle. Members of staff should also consider the side effects and how often the product should be used/applied and any other stop smoking support.
On subsequent weeks of dispensing the members of staff should ensure that the product is still suitable and that the patient has suffered no adverse effects. If the patient has suffered adverse side effects then the patient should be counselled, advised on a suitable alternative NRT product and dispensed.
