Description
Aims and objectives of service
- Funded by the SWL Innovation Fund (at the SWL ICB), Winter Fit builds on Healthy Living Champions training by providing a bespoke intervention to those customers aged 65 years and older in Southwest London.
- Pharmacy staff are trained in providing 15-minute advice to those aged 65 years and older on what they can do to remain fit and healthy throughout this winter season.
- Prevention is key to reducing excess deaths and illnesses and Winter Fit will be a key part of protecting our over 65s population during a winter fraught with the ‘cost of living’ crisis.
- The aim is to keep the elderly well and out of hospital through this winter through appropriate referrals and connections to preventative help and services, winter warmth schemes, local support groups etc as well as advice on self-management and care.

Training
A 2 hour training course will be provided for Winter Fit during the second week of February. Each participating pharmacy is expected to send at least one pharmacy staff member to be trained. Participants are expected to familiarize themselves with the local services and weblinks provided in the training so that they are comfortable relaying the information to their customers/clients.
