Services Database Influenza Pilot 2013-14

Service ID

10919

Description

The aims of the service are to increase access to the seasonal influenza vaccine for those ages between 18 and 65 in the clinical at risk groups and to increase the uptake of seasonal influenza across Devon and Cornwall. Eligible patients are identified by pharmacy staff through prescriptions and the PNR and exclusion criteria applied to ensure that the pharmacy is the most suitable option for the patient to receive their vaccination. Administration of the vaccine must be by accredited pharmacists in suitable premises which include a consultation area with hand washing facilities, seating and enough area for a patient to lie down in the event of a reaction. The pharmacy must have Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place for the service.

The patient's GP must be notified of the vaccination by the pharmacy within 5 days.
