Services Database Emergency Hormonal Contraception & Combined Chlamydia Screening (Devon Area)

Community pharmacies offering this sexual health service will provide the following services for young people aged 13-24:

• Levonorgestrel emergency hormonal contraception (EHC) to women between the ages of 13 and 24 years inclusive, who meet the inclusion criteria of the EHC levonorgestrel 1500 Patient Group Direction (PGD);
• a proactive offer of chlamydia screening and a chlamydia screening kit will be included in the consultation;
• signposting to services that provide reliable regular contraception and management of sexually transmitted infections;
• pharmacies will offer a 'Young People Friendly' patient centred and confidential service, providing access to up to date information for those aged 13-24; and
• verbal advice will be provided on general contraception and sexual health promotion issues, including the use of condoms to protect against sexually transmitted infections.

It is the responsibility of the lead pharmacist to ensure that all pharmacists, including locums, have attended training and can provide evidence of completing:

• the online CPPE Emergency Contraception learning and assessment modules;
• the level 2 safeguarding children and vulnerable young people training viathe online CPPE Safeguarding children learning and assessment modules or via the training options offered through the Devon Safeguarding Board;
• a chlamydia screening/talking to young people training session provided by the Chlamydia Screening Team
