Description

The purpose of this service is to ensure that women aged 13 years and over have equitable access to emergency oral hormonal contraceptive (EOHC) in a convenient location, the demand for which may be urgent and/or unpredictable.

The service will enable the pharmacist in a commissioned pharmacy to supply EOHC free at the point of access to patients aged 13 and over, presenting at the pharmacy, requesting emergency contraception, in line with the associated Patient Group Direction (PGD).  In addition, the pharmacist or their support staff will signpost the patient to specialist sexual health services for ongoing contraceptive advice. Free condoms will also be offered to women accessing the service.
