Description
To supervise the consumption of prescribed medicines at the point of dispensing in the
pharmacy, ensuring that the service user has consumed the prescribed dose currently.
To ensure service users are compliant with their agreed treatment plan by:
• Dispensing their medicines in specified instalments as instructed on the prescription.
• Supervising the consumption of the prescribed medicines at the point of dispensing to
ensure that the prescribed dose has been correctly consumed by the service user.
To reduce the risk of local communities of:
• Diversion of prescribed medicines onto the illicit drugs market
• Accidental exposure to prescribed medicines.
To provide service users with regular contact with healthcare professionals and to help them
access further advice or assistance.

Training
To ensure, on a 3 yearly basis, that the lead pharmacists providing the service has
successfully completed:
• CPPE Substance Use and Misuse (pharmacist version) and the associated
Declaration of Competence
• CPPE e-learning module Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults and the
associated e-assessment.
• Enable CPPE viewer in order to allow PharmOutcomes to view training
completion linked to this service. The CPPE viewer facility allows commissioners
or employers access to view a pharmacy professional’s learning and assessment record. Pharmacy professionals will need to enable the CPPE Viewer via their Profile section of the My CPPE page to allow access to others.
All pharmacists will be required to complete the CPPE Declaration of Competence for
Supervised Administration of prescribed medication. It is recommended that all registered
pharmacy technicians complete the same declaration. The declaration training and reading
and signing the SOP will need to be confirmed on PharmOutcomes via enrolment.
All contractors must have a chaperone policy in place and display in a prominent position
All Pharmacists must complete CPPE Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Level II elearning and associated e-assessment before delivering the service.
The accredited pharmacist will be invited to and encouraged to attend an initial training and
accreditation evening organised by LloydsPharmacy before commencing the service.
A representative from the pharmacy may be invited and encouraged to attend an annual
training event.
Be responsible for identifying their own staffs learning needs and recording their Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) and where relevant, cascade training to all staff to ensure
everyone is aware of the key issues and can respond sensitively and appropriately to
enquiries.
