Description
This service will require the pharmacist to supervise the consumption of prescribed medicines at the point of dispensing in the pharmacy, ensuring that the dose has been administered to the patient.
The pharmacy will provide support and advice to the client, including referral to primary care or specialist centres where appropriate.
Examples of medicines which may have consumption supervised include methadone, buprenorphine, Suboxone and other medicines (as agreed by the Community Based Drug Services Group), used for the management of opiate dependence.

Training
- The accredited pharmacist must have successfully completed the CPPE Declaration of Competence which includes the course 'Substance Use and Misuse' and Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults which must be updated every two years.
- Accredited pharmacists will be required to complete the CPPE Declaration of Competence for Supervised Administration of prescribed medication. The declaration will need to be confirmed on PharmOutcomes.
