Description

Pharmacy staff play a key role in supporting individuals in recognising potential Alcohol Use Disorders (AUDs) and enabling individuals to make changes to reduce the risks of their alcohol use.
Aims: To deliver an alcohol IBA service through opportunistic interventions including service users engaged with drug services e.g. service users collecting Opioid Substitution Treatments (OSTs), using needle and syringe programmes (NSPs), patients attending for Medicines Use Reviews (MUR), New Medicines Services (NMS) and other customers of the pharmacy e.g. seeking advice and treatment for minor health conditions.

Training

All pharmacy staff who will be delivering alcohol IBAs must demonstrate completion of the e-learning for Healthcare (eLfH) pharmacy e-Learning package (duration is approximately one hour) available at:
https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/programmes/alcohol/
All lead pharmacists* and/or Health Champions will also need to complete a face-to-face training programme provided by Turning Point
*This term is used in the context of pharmacists overseeing the service in commissioned pharmacies
