Description
This service is designed to enable community pharmacies within the Royal Borough of Kingston to identify adult patients who are overweight and obese (BMI above 30 or 28 kg/m² -29.9 kg/m² with co-morbidities) and to support them with weight management by delivering the Weigh-2-Go programme.
Pharmacies will be encouraged to actively refer suitable individuals from the NHS Health Checks service and to promote self-referral.
Objectives of the programme:
- to offer and deliver a quality, evidence-based weight management service for people who are motivated to lose weight and maintain weight loss;
- to increase accessibility to weight management services within primary care;
- to prevent and reduce overweight and obesity in Kingston, in line with the Kingston Obesity and Physical Activity Strategy (2012-2015);
- to improve BMI registers in general practice and link with the NHS Health Checks programme; and
- to reduce admission to secondary care and increase life expectancy in Kingston

Training
Pharmacies providing the service will have at least two staff complete weight management pre-programme training provided by NHS Kingston.
Pharmacies will allow trained staff to attend 6-monthly Weigh-2-Go refresher training.
