LPC Elections 2027

Published on: 9th October 2026 | Updated on: 9th October 2026

Your Local Pharmaceutical Committee (LPC) is the organisation that represents the general body of pharmacy owners at a local level, as recognised by the local NHS.

The term of office for the vast majority of LPC committee members will expire on 31st March 2027 and new committees will take office from 1st April 2027.

The strength and success of community pharmacy representation depends on diverse, passionate and committed leaders who are willing to step forward to govern, advise and shape our work at both national and local levels.  If you are a pharmacy owner with a strong interest in supporting community pharmacy in your area, and you can demonstrate the qualities outlined below, standing in your LPC election could be a valuable opportunity.

LPC members ensure that the role of the LPC is discharged effectively, they work with their colleagues on the committee to ensure that the voice of community pharmacy is heard within the LPC area.

The essential qualities of an LPC committee member

LPC committee members are required to make decisions in the best interest of the general body of community pharmacy contractors in the area. In doing so, individuals should:

  • adhere to good governance principles
  • communicate effectively
  • think strategically
  • work constructively to build consensus, and be able to work effectively with other LPC members and the LPC staff team
  • act equitably and in the best interests of all the pharmacy owners they serve

Competencies for LPC Membership

LPC members should have a good understanding, not only of community pharmacy, but also of the health needs of the local community and local and national NHS priorities, and they should be committed to promoting the role of pharmacies in delivering services.

Other competencies that are useful include financial skills, familiarity with wider government health policy, local government experience, and membership of special interest groups relevant to pharmacy and education; but the key requirements are an enthusiasm for pharmacy, a willingness to contribute and being a team player.

CCA, IPA and non IPA regional multiples with more than 8%

If you are a pharmacy team member of a company that is a member of the Company Chemists’ Association (CCA), or a pharmacy owner or employee of a business that is a full member of the Independent Pharmacies Association (IPA), you can express your interest to your membership body as both bodies have appointment rights to LPCs and these seats are appointed centrally.

The same prohibition applies to non IPA regional multiples with more than 8% of the total contracts in the LPC area who have accepted reserved places on the LPC.

Eligibility for Independents

The candidate must be a/an:

  1. Independent pharmacy owner meaning personally (either individually or in partnership), or as a director and a substantial shareholder (either personally, or through shares owned by members of their immediate family, i.e. parents, spouse or children) in a body corporate which is an Independent pharmacy owner
  2. Or nominated as representative by them – e.g. Pharmacist Manager, Technician, etc
  3. One of the Independent pharmacy owner’s premises must be in the LPC area

(Note some restrictions – Not a member of the IPA for the purposes of this election (IPA members can be appointed to LPCs through IPA, as above)

If you would like to stand for Election

We encourage early thinking about standing for election for LPCs and Community Pharmacy England  what’s involved and the path towards nomination.

Pharmacy owners should receive details of how to access the nomination form in January directly from their LPC.

If nominations exceed available places, an election will be held. CCA, IPA and non IPA regional multiples with more than 8% are not permitted to vote during the election, due to accepting reserved seats.

Your nomination must include details of your community pharmacy experience, skills and a short supporting statement. In the interests of transparency, all candidates standing for election and/or appointed to an LPC committee should be required to make public the number of pharmacies they own in England and any trade association memberships.

Nominations must include two supporting electors (LPCs) and six (if standing for CPE)
