Pharmacies will identify eligible individuals and offer seasonal influenza immunisation opportunistically to those aged 18 to under 65 years and in an at-risk group, as defined with the Flu Immunisation Programme 2014-15 letter. Training
The pharmacy contractor shall ensure that any pharmacist who administers the vaccine has the required competencies and has within the last 12 months:
- completed and passed training or update training in the provision and administration of the influenza vaccine, delivered by an accredited trainer; and
- completed and passed training or update training with regard to the recognition and initial treatment of anaphylaxis and Basic Life Support (BLS), delivered by an accredited trainer.
Training must be accredited and at a minimum meeting the National Minimum Standards for Immunisation Training (Health Protection Agency 2005) https://www.hpa.org.uk/webc/HPAwebFile/HPAweb_C/1196942164323.
Pharmacists should maintain clinical knowledge appropriate to their practice by attending relevant study days, courses and making themselves aware of appropriate literature.
